- CRS – Cold Rolled Steel Doors w/ Prime Coat: Cold rolled steel is made by adding tensile force to hot rolled steel sheets. The cold-rolling process increases density, hardens the steel, and produces a consistent surface that’s ideal for commercial steel doors and frames.
- A40/A60 – Galvanneal Steel Doors w/ Prime Coat: Galvanneal steel is produced when cold-rolled steel is dipped into liquified zinc then heated until a new zinc-iron alloy is created. Galveanneal steel doors are known for their improved corrosion resistance and superior paint adhesion properties.
- G90 – Galvanized Steel Doors w/ Prime Coat: Galvanized steel is produced when cold rolled steel is dipped in a hot zinc coating. Galvanized steel doors are resistant to corrosion but offer poor paint adhesion compared to annealed commercial steel doors.
- Type 304 โ In addition to iron, 304 stainless-steel contains approximately 8% nickel and about 18% chromium. 304 stainless-steel doors are known for their corrosion resistance and frequent use in food processing, industrial and public facilities.

Overview of Commercial Steel Doors
Commercial Steel Doors: A Cornerstone of Durability and Functionality in Commercial Buildings
Often referred to as hollow metal doors, these robust entrances are meticulously designed to handle the rigors of high-traffic areas while providing security, fire resistance, and aesthetic appeal. Their versatility makes them suitable for both interior and exterior applications, fulfilling a wide range of needs in today’s architectural landscape.
Hollow Metal Doors: A Reliable Choice
Hollow metal doors, commonly abbreviated as HM in architectural specifications, are primarily constructed from roll-formed steel. They feature a non-metallic core that fills the internal cavity, which can be crafted from various materials. Polystyrene is a popular choice for enhancing thermal insulation, while Kraft Structural Honeycomb provides moderate insulation alongside improved rigidity. The resulting structure is exceptionally strong, capable of withstanding significant impact and offering excellent flame resistance. This combination of attributes makes hollow metal doors ideal for diverse applications, from educational institutions to healthcare facilities.
Stainless Steel Doors: A Blend of Aesthetics and Durability
Stainless steel doors are an attractive and functional option that combines modern aesthetics with robust durability. Constructed from high-quality stainless steel, these doors are particularly well-suited for environments that demand both hygiene and longevity, such as hospitals, laboratories, and food processing facilities. Stainless steel doors are resistant to corrosion, rust, and staining, making them easy to maintain and ideal for high-traffic areas. Their sleek finish provides a contemporary look that complements modern architectural designs. Additionally, stainless steel doors can be fabricated with various insulation options, ensuring energy efficiency without compromising on durability.
These doors can also be specified in fire-rated versions, making them a versatile choice for applications that require both safety and style. The durability of stainless steel ensures that these doors can withstand heavy use while maintaining their visual appeal over time, making them a smart investment for any commercial property.
Fire Rated Steel Doors: Safety First
Fire-rated steel doors are engineered to protect occupants by containing smoke, flames, and toxic gases during a fire. These doors are available with fire ratings of 20, 45, 60, 90 minutes, and even up to 3 hours. This rating indicates the duration the door can withstand fire exposure while maintaining its integrity. Youโll frequently find these doors in critical locations such as stairwells, elevator shafts, and corridors where safety regulations necessitate fire-rated solutions. They are an indispensable part of any building’s fire safety strategy, ensuring safe egress for occupants during emergencies.
Fire Rated Steel Doors with Glass: Combining Visibility and Protection
For facilities that require both safety and visibility, fire-rated steel doors equipped with glass offer an optimal solution. These doors can incorporate either non-wired ceramic glass or impact-resistant wire glass, ensuring visibility while meeting stringent safety standards. They are particularly advantageous in industrial environments where a clear line of sight is necessary for monitoring activities while maintaining security. Such configurations are commonly employed in areas where increased visibility can enhance safety and operational efficiency.
Exterior Steel Doors: Built to Last
When it comes to exterior applications, commercial steel doors are purposefully designed to withstand the elements. These doors are typically manufactured from galvanneal or galvanized steel, both of which offer superior protection against corrosion. A factory-applied epoxy primer enhances their longevity, making them suitable for environments exposed to moisture and harsh weather conditions. Many exterior metal doors come with a polystyrene foam core for improved insulation. For locations where energy efficiency is a priority, specifying exterior doors with a polyurethane pressurized foam core can provide exceptional thermal performance.
Interior Steel Doors: Practical and Attractive
Interior steel doors serve a dual purpose: they offer security and durability while contributing to the aesthetic appeal of a building. Available in various stylesโincluding flush, 2-panel, and 6-panel designsโinterior metal doors are often factory-primed, allowing for easy customization with paint to match existing decor. These doors are frequently utilized in settings where a heavy-duty, fire-rated option is essential, such as hospitals, schools, and corporate offices. They offer a smart solution for spaces that experience high traffic while ensuring safety and reliability.
Industrial Metal Doors: Engineered for Tough Environments
Industrial steel doors are designed to meet the demanding conditions of industrial facilities. Constructed from heavier gauges of steelโsuch as 18-, 16-, or 14-gaugeโthese doors are available in various materials, including cold-rolled, galvanized, and stainless steel. Industrial doors may require specialized features to handle unique challenges, such as corrosion resistance in chemical plants, fire resistance in manufacturing facilities, or radiation shielding in laboratories. Their ability to be customized for odd sizes, shapes, and hardware preparations makes them an essential component in many industrial settings.
Steel Security Doors: Enhanced Protection
Security is paramount in commercial applications, and steel security doors are designed to offer a higher level of protection than standard residential doors. Classified by the Steel Door Institute (SDI) as meeting physical performance level 2, heavy-duty 18-gauge hollow metal doors provide a solid barrier against unauthorized entry. Optional features such as steel-stiffened core construction and the use of 16- or 14-gauge steel can significantly bolster the security properties of these doors. Adding security door hardware, like reinforced locks and hinges, can further enhance the overall safety and security of a facility.
Steel Double Doors: Versatile Configurations
Steel double doors offer versatility in design and functionality. These doors can be configured in several ways, including active/inactive pairs where one door serves as the primary entry while the other remains fixed until needed. Alternatively, both doors can be active, allowing for independent operation. In most cases, active/active configurations use surface vertical rod exit devices that latch each door at the top and/or bottom, enabling seamless access while maintaining security.
